We sat down with People Experience Lead, Robyn Waugh, to learn why she chose Nimble to grow her consulting career.

Robyn Waugh, People Experience Lead at Nimble Approach

What attracted you to Nimble?

The last 10 years of my career have been entirely focused on People Experience, and it’s a field I’m deeply passionate about.

During my job search, I was approached by several companies, but Nimble stood out immediately because of how thoughtful and transparent their interview process was. Right from our first conversation, it was clear that this is a company that genuinely cares and is committed to doing the best for its employees – which, unfortunately, is quite rare.

They already had solid foundations, but they were looking for someone to help scale that and make it even better. The honesty, openness, and candor throughout the process was refreshing and exactly what I was looking for.

What’s an average day at Nimble for you?

It’s wonderfully varied, which keeps me on my toes! When I first joined, the focus was heavily on strategy, working closely with the team to identify exactly which projects would move the needle for our people. Once we defined that roadmap, we shifted into full execution mode.

It’s been just over six months, and the progress we’ve made is incredible. We’ve built a new digital hub that centralises all our HR, Experience, and Operations information, and we’ve rolled out a brand-new wellbeing framework. It’s been an incredibly exciting time for the whole People Team.

I get to work across a wide range of areas, from wellbeing, growth and development, and inclusion, to socials, benefits, and charity giving. I’m constantly chatting with so many people across the business to hear what they need, and then I get to turn those insights into reality. Knowing that my work directly impacts people’s day-to-day experience is the best part. No two days are ever the same, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What’s your favourite thing about working for Nimble?

I’m sure it’s a cliché, but it really is the people! We’ve gathered such a brilliant bunch of individuals here. Everyone is helpful, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. There’s a shared energy where we’re all rowing in the same direction, and that alignment creates a really powerful, supportive environment.

Beyond the team, I’m a huge fan of the autonomy we’re trusted with. We have a culture of openness that encourages us to learn and grow from one another, which has been invaluable for my own professional development and personal wellbeing. It feels like a safe space to try new things.

What’s your favourite benefit that we offer?

That’s a tough one because we have such a great array of benefits! If I had to pick, I’d say the no-capped counselling and therapy sessions, along with our wider access to medical support, are incredibly impactful. It can be such a daunting, isolating experience when you need that level of support, so knowing it’s available without fear of it ending or being restricted is a massive weight off one’s shoulders. It speaks volumes about how Nimble prioritises the person behind the employee.

I’m also a strong advocate for our L&D budget, it’s a very valuable benefit. Professional development can often involve significant investment, so having the flexibility to support learning aligned to our individual goals is incredibly impactful. I’ve already used mine to attend a major employee experience summit and to deepen my knowledge in change communications – an area I’ve been keen to develop further.

How has Nimble helped you grow in your career?

I’ve been in this space professionally for a decade, and I’ve learned most of what I know by following my passion: creating environments where everyone feels genuinely welcome, seen, heard, and valued. It’s my ‘why’ – it’s what drives me to come in every morning. I’ve always strived to be a people-first advocate and a voice for those who might feel unheard.

I went through a turbulent couple of years before coming to Nimble, and my confidence definitely took a hit. Nimble didn’t tell me to ‘get over it’ or ignore it; they gave me the space, the autonomy, and the guidance I needed to rebuild that confidence from the ground up. I’m also incredibly lucky to be supported by our Chief People Officer, Penny. She’s an inspiring leader who always has your back. Her leadership style is exactly the right fit for a company like Nimble, and I’m so grateful to learn from her.

What advice would you give recent hires?

Be yourself – that’s the most important thing! When you start, lean into your curiosity and ask all the questions. I always say: ‘you don’t know until you know,’ so don’t be afraid to keep asking until you do. Share your experiences, too. You never know when your unique perspective might be the missing piece of a puzzle or the answer someone else has been waiting to hear. Above all, remember that there is support whenever you need it. ‘Nimblers’ are incredibly helpful; I’ve found that whenever I’ve needed assistance, it’s been given without judgment and with so much care. Don’t hesitate to reach out.

Finally, I’d say enjoy it! Work takes up so much of our lives, and when it’s meaningful, it makes all the difference. So take the opportunities, get involved, connect with people across all of our different areas, share your knowledge and experiences, and make your time with Nimble something you’re genuinely proud to be a part of.

What brings you joy outside work?

I’m happiest when I’m out on a long walk. Most weekends, my partner and I head out into the (somewhat) wild to tackle a big Yorkshire hill, wander through a forest, or enjoy the sea breeze on the coast. I find so much peace in the quiet of nature. A solid 10-mile trek with a little picnic stop is my absolute idea of heaven, though I’m still holding out hope for a furry friend to join us on those adventures soon (fingers crossed it happens before too long!).

I love nature so much, in fact, that I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with house plants! There’s something so rewarding about nurturing them; that feeling of accomplishment when a new leaf unfurls (or two!)  is unmatched. I’m also a big music fan – especially live gigs – and I’ll listen to pretty much anything. And, of course, you really can’t beat a cozy night in with a good film or a box set – with snacks!!
