What attracted you to Nimble?

Coming from a large-scale consultancy background, I was looking for a place where I could have a more direct impact without the layers of red tape. Nimble stood out because of its ‘people-first’ reputation and the absolute stellar calibre of the engineering talent here. I wanted to be in an environment where being “technology agnostic” wasn’t just a buzzword, but a genuine core philosophy. It felt like the ideal place to keep expanding my breadth across tech stacks while helping clients solve genuine, complex problems.

What’s an average day at Nimble for you?

As a Senior Consultant, my day is a bit of a hybrid. Mornings usually start with a deep dive into client work – perhaps architecting an event-driven system in a cloud provider like Azure or pair-programming with a client’s engineer to help them get a handle on Test-Driven Development (TDD). In the afternoon, I might be mentoring internal team members, triaging production issues, or collaborating with stakeholders to turn vague requirements into a solid technical roadmap. No two days are quite the same, which is exactly what I like!

What’s your favourite thing about working for Nimble?

It’s the lack of ego. At Nimble, you’re surrounded by incredibly smart people, but there’s a real culture of ‘safe-to-fail’ and open knowledge sharing. Whether I’m debating the merits of a specific microservices pattern or just messaging in a Slack channel about the latest AI tools and frameworks, there’s a sense that everyone is pulling in the same direction to build the best possible solution for our clients.

What’s your favourite benefit that we offer?

The focus on personal growth and the tech budget for learning and development are great and probably one of the best I’ve seen. For me personally, however – perhaps somewhat selfishly – it’s the genuine flexibility that stands out. As someone who trains and teaches various martial arts – Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & MMA – having a company that respects my life outside of work is vital. My fitness and martial arts are central to keeping both my mind and body sharp, helping me stay in the right headspace. In turn, this enables me to deliver strong results for our clients and perform at my best – whether I’m behind a keyboard, collaborating face-to-face with client engineering teams, or on the mats.

How has Nimble helped you grow in your career?

Nimble has given me the platform to move beyond just ‘writing code’ and into a space of true technical leadership. I’ve been encouraged to lead client engagements and own the end-to-end delivery of complex projects. The exposure to such a wide variety of industries, from Fintech to EdTech, has sharpened my ability to adapt quickly and choose the right tool for the job, rather than just the one I’m most comfortable with.

What advice would you give recent hires?

Don’t be afraid to ask ‘why.’ In consultancy, the most valuable thing you can do isn’t just delivering a particular feature, it’s understanding the business value behind it. Also, get involved! Join the communities of practices, contribute to the internal docs, and don’t be a stranger in the Slack channels. We have a wealth of knowledge and some amazing people here; just send a message out there, and people will chime in for a good conversation!

What brings you joy outside work?

If I’m not at my desk, I’m either at the gym, spending time with my family (I’ve got an 11-month-old boy who keeps me busy, but I love it!), or tinkering with my car. I’ve been a Mixed Martial Artist for over a decade, and I spend a lot of my time training and mentoring aspiring fighters. There’s a surprising amount of crossover between MMA and Software Engineering; both require discipline, a lot of problem-solving under pressure, and the realisation that there is always something new to learn, but nothing beats rock-solid fundamentals. I also enjoy experimenting with new technologies through side projects! Most recently, I built a car history-checking web application and set up a home lab using a couple of Raspberry Pis to support home automation and cloud storage.
